Introduction to Community Development

Description: This is a new graduate-level course, Introduction to Community Development, which is being developed by an interdisciplinary group of USF faculty. The course will become part of the regular course offerings, be offered annually and become the required introduction to the proposed Graduate Certificate in Community Development. The course will be interdisciplinary, applied and exemplify service learning. It will have a lasting curricular impact by becoming part of an ongoing graduate certificate program, and it will be designed and implemented in collaboration with community development practitioners in the Tampa Bay region. This proposal also focuses on building communities of need, including East Tampa, utilizing the long term, comprehensive approach of community development, thus creating environments in which children and families can thrive.
