Community Stepping Stones

Community Stepping Stones is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education, mentorship, and enrichment in the lives of Sulphur Springs children.

Description:

The children of Sulphur Springs are realizing their artistic capabilities and learning practical business skills through the efforts of Ed Ross, Community Stepping Stones volunteers, and community partners. Community Stepping Stones exists in partnership with the USF School of Art, Art History, and the Bank of America.

An example of the Community Stepping Stones project is a mural located in Rowlett Park in Sulphur Springs.  The mural was designed and painted by the neighborhood’s youth in July 2004 and, along with other artwork by the children, was recently on display as part of a the Hillsborough Community College Ybor Campus art gallery exhibit. The exhibit offered a chance for the community to see what the children are doing.  It also provided an opportunity for the children to share their experiences with the community.

Community Stepping Stones is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education, mentorship, and enrichment in the lives of Sulphur Springs children.  Started in August 2003 by Ed Ross, an art professor at USF and Hillsborough Community College, the program offers children the opportunity to develop their creative talents while simultaneously providing college students with the opportunity to teach art for course credit.
