Cuentos de mi Familia: A Public Collaborative History
John McKiernan-Gonzalez, History and Adriana Novoa, Humanities & American Studies, working with Dowdell Middle School.
Description:
Cuentos de mi Familia is a history project through which 30 Latino eighth graders in Hillsborough County, staff at five middle schools and 10 USF students will complete two projects related to Latino history and culture.
They will create an exhibit-ready biography of the students’ favorite family member and then, using the facts of the stories collected from their families, research, compose, and design an art project based on the significance of the autobiography. When the projects are completed they will place their Cuento in the Special Collections department of the USF Tampa library. The goal is for these students to learn about and share their culture, by way of integrating visual narratives with biographical information
