Early Childhood Assessment Tool Study
Susan F. Allen, Social Work, USF St. Petersburg and Mari T. Fernandez, Education working with the Coordinated Child Care of Pinellas School Readiness Coalition, Pinellas County.
Description:
The Florida Partnership for School Readiness requires pre- and post-testing of children to screen for developmental lags and evaluate service delivery in child cares centers, but there is a significant diversity in instruments used. This project will conduct a statewide survey of school readiness to collect information on tools currently used for assessment and program evaluation, and guide Pinellas County in selecting effective instruments.
The project also will compare several assessment tools: E-CARE, ASQ-Child, ASQ-parent, and the LAP-D assessments. Twenty Pinellas County centers will participate in the study. They are centers that achieve a score of 95% on a preschool center assessment tool, use research-based curriculum, conduct parent involvement activities, have teaching staff with specified educational requirements, and achieve a staff child ratio of 20:2 with an estimated minimum of 370 children who receive subsidized day care within the 20 research centers.
