Communication, Culture and Community

Description:

This course examines the relationships among culture, communication, institutions, and public and private life. Students explore the possibilities and problems of contemporary forms of community through service in a non-profit organization.

Students will actively participate in community construction in two ways: first, students will attempt to construct a participatory community in the classroom, and second, students will actively participate in community building in East Tampa. The students will work directly with the East Tampa Community Revitalization Partnership to assist in assessing the impact of their initiatives on the community, by qualitatively measuring their success.
