Robin Ersing, Social Work and Frederick Steier, Communications working with Hillsborough County Office of Neighborhood Relations

Description: This study explores the role and function of Neighborhood Associations within Hillsborough County, Florida, as an outlet in the building and activation of community-level social capital. The aim of this study is to understand how Neighborhood Associations work to develop social ties and networks, also called bonding, among local residents to create a sense of community. It will also seek to understand how Neighborhood Associations form connections with other community groups and institutions external to the local neighborhood in order to activate levels of social capital to address quality of life issues.

The study will also compare demographic and geographic characteristics of Neighborhood Associations to explore the factors that may influence the building of social capital in Hillsborough County Neighborhoods.
