New Bachelor of General Studies Degree for Adult Learners [01/14/2009]

To meet the needs of working and time-strapped adults in the Tampa Bay region, the University of South Florida now offers a Bachelor of General Studies. This degree-completion program is designed for individuals who previously earned 60 hours or more of college credits and are now ready to complete their degrees.

The Bachelor of General Studies degree at USF is a customized, interdisciplinary program that provides students with options to choose an academic course of study that fits their educational and professional goals on a full- or part-time basis.

“This program provides busy adults the opportunity to integrate the completion of the baccalaureate degree into their schedules – whether they are currently working, at home or in career transition,” said Lagretta Lenker, director of Metro Initiatives at USF. The program is offered through USF ECampus and the Office of Undergraduate Studies. Portions of the program may be taken at the university’s regional campuses, USF Sarasota-Manatee and USF Polytechnic in Lakeland.

After completing general study requirements, students can select from concentrations in aging studies, business, behavioral health care services, environmental policy and management, hospitality, information technology, management, public administration, urban studies and women’s studies. The program provides day, evening and distance learning options. Applicants must have completed at least 60 credit hours at a regionally accredited college or university, must have been out of school three or more years, and must demonstrate the ability to complete the degree.
