Certificate in Community Real Estate Development at USF [04/01/2008]

The challenging field of community real estate development requires practitioners to know how to use public and private resources, and demands skill sets in real estate development, finance and project management. This program is designed to give participants the tools to carry out successful, affordable housing and community development initiatives and supports the work of non-profit community-based and public agencies involved in or responsible for the delivery of community and economic development related services. Participants will learn: • The development process for rental housing and homeownership • How to structure effective project financing • How to obtain public and private funds to meet project needs • How to establish effective affordable housing strategies • State of the art market assessment methods • Effective project management The program is designed for: • Non-profit affordable housing developers • For-profit affordable housing developers • Local government community development staff • Board members of community development organizations, community-based organizations, community housing development organizations • Policy makers and community leaders who are engaged in promoting affordable housing, developing programs and policies for affordable housing • Students in business, law, urban studies, architecture and others who would like to update their knowledge of urban real estate development and finance and desire a more hands-on experience in project level real estate financial analysis. This program is uniquely structured to give participants the opportunity to develop relationships within the real estate community as well as foster teamwork and group cooperation. The 3-module program (each module consists of four one-day workshops) will be held from 9am to 4:30pm at the USF Tampa campus. Regular class attendance is required and participants must attend 10 of the 12 sessions in order to earn a USF Certificate in Community Real Estate Development.
