Darlene L. Shearer, DrPH, is an Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Maternal and Child Health Services Workforce Development Program. She works in the Lawton and Rhea Chiles Center for Healthy Mothers and Babies and teaches courses in the Department of Community and Family Health. Dr. Shearer's research interests include the effectiveness of home visitation as a service delivery model, models that use community health workers to provide service and care to MCH populations, adolescent pregnancy and risk taking behaviors among adolescents with cognitive limitations, predictors of developmental outcomes for young children, and international differences in perception, adaptation, and treatment of childhood disabilities among parents in different cultures. She has developed a home visitation model and curriculum to train community workers and program personnel to work with families with young children that have disabilities. In partnership with her husband, Dr. Shearer has conducted this work in Japan, India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Cyprus, and Curacao.
