Dr. Linda Evans is an assistant professor in the Foreign Language Education/ESOL program. Her areas of special interest include bilingual education, ESOL, and literacy. Dr. Evans holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in elementary bilingual education from Boston University and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on second language literacy from the University of South Florida.
Background/Teaching
Dr. Evans has worked as an elementary Spanish bilingual teacher and as an English as a second language teacher in K-12 and university programs. She has extensive experience in teacher education. Dr. Evans has consulted for school districts throughout the Southeast, providing workshops and leading curriculum development teams in districts with large populations of English language learners. She was a faculty member in Childhood Education and the ESOL coordinator on USF’s Lakeland campus before coming to the Secondary Education department in Tampa in August 2004.
Research/Service
Dr. Evans’ research interests include immersion/bilingual programs and teacher development. She has conducted research in Costa Rica with women who are educators and advocates for children. She is also collecting oral histories of ESL and bilingual teachers who have been in the field for twenty years or more. In addition, Dr. Evans’ interest in technology has led her to participate in a number of college technology initiatives including PT3 and Intel training. She is currently participating in the college’s laptop initiative.
