About this event: Dr. Chesler will share her new introduction to her book Woman's Inhumanity to Woman (Thunder’s Mouth Press/Nation Books, 2001). Her focus in the presentation will include some of the challenges this subject poses for feminists in the West e.g. whether or how we may take a feminist stand vis a vis women in other countries who are subjected to being stoned to death, honor killed, infected with AIDS by their husbands, who are genitally mutilated, etc. She will leave time for discussion and will encourage the following subjects: the history of Women's Studies from a pioneer's point of view; the status of psychiatric biases; feminist therapy; the future of our world in terms of jihad and Islamic gender and religious apartheid.
