Pushing the Boundaries: The University, the Community, and Progressive Youth Leadership Development

In the Spotlight:  Barbara Ferman

Date(s): 03/06/2008

Event time: 1:00 - 2:30 pm

About this event: How can faculty, staff and students work with the community to support authentic youth leadership development? What does it look like, what are the challenges, what are the opportunities, and why should we even care? Dr. Ferman will answer these questions by drawing on cases from her own experience that illuminate how faculty can push the boundaries of teaching, research, and youth leadership development in positive and progressive ways. Dr. Ferman not only epitomizes the “engaged scholar,” but she has successfully built the infrastructure necessary for a major metropolitan research university to sustain project-based collaborations with the community. Her presentation will interest those involved in youth leadership development, community development, and engaged scholarship.

Event Location: TECO Room, College of Education
