USF Certificate Program in Community Real Estate Development

The challenging field of community real estate development requires practitioners to know how to use public and private resources, and demands skill sets in real estate development, finance and project management. This program is designed to give participants the tools to carry out successful, affordable housing and community development initiatives and supports the work of non-profit community-based and public agencies involved in or responsible for the delivery of community and economic development related services.

Participants will learn:

  • Learn the Basics of Real Estate Analysis
  • Understand the Requirements of Available Financing and Subsidy Resources for Affordable Housing
  • Develop Skills to Manage the Community Real Estate Development Process

The program is designed for:

  • Non-profit affordable housing developers
  • For-profit affordable housing developers
  • Local government community development staff
  • Board members of community development organizations, community-based organizations, community housing development organizations
  • Policy makers and community leaders who are engaged in promoting affordable housing, developing programs and policies for affordable housing
  • Students in business, law, urban studies, architecture and others who would like to update their knowledge and practice of urban real estate development and finance and desire a more focused hands-on practical experience in project level real estate financial analysis.

Sessions are uniquely structured to give participants the opportunity to develop relationships within the real estate community as well as foster teamwork and group cooperation. The 4-module program (each module consisting of four, one-day workshops) is typically held at the USF Downtown Center from 9a to 4p. Regular class attendance is required and participants must attend 13 of the 16 sessions in order to earn a USF Certificate in Community Real Estate Development.
